Good Day Bloggers....
I am very concerned about how our youth and many of us as adults use the word "
NIGGER, NIGGA, NIGGAH" however you want to spell and use it.
(Etymology: alteration of earlier
neger, from Middle French
negre, from Spanish or Portuguese
negro, from
negro black, from Latin
niger.)1. usually offensive; a black person 2. usually offensive; a member of any dark-skinned race 3. a member of a socially disadvantaged class of persons; "
It's time for somebody to lead all of America's niggers…all the people who feel left out of the political process "— Ron Dellums..... Nigger in senses 1 and 2 can be found in the works of such writers of the past as Joseph Conrad, Mark Twain, and Charles Dickens, but it now ranks as perhaps the most offensive and inflammatory racial slur in English. Its use by and among blacks is not always intended or taken as offensive, but, except in sense 3, it is otherwise a word expressive of racial hatred and bigotry.-- Webster's DictionaryViewed as a very derogatory label, it troubles me the way people so freely use this term on blogs, My-Space, and Facebook. Speaking to your friends and family in the privacy of your home; hey, you may do as you please, however coming from a true lady this term has always bothered me and resignates with a lot of people as negative and hurtful. But this is America and citizens have the right to Free Speech, so may it be used if you and your company feel comfortable and no one is offended, that is solely up to you. However leaving "
status quotes" and "
comments" with "
NIGGA" in a sentence, shows a lack of respect for others as well as yourselves!
The "
NIGGA" users need to take into consideration people who view these sites and need to think about the history of the word and what baggage it brings to the table for just innocent readers. Because, yes, as a citizen in the free world, you have to be aware of your impact on others, the youth and yourself. Who knows and innocent reader can be a potential employer, who now has rejected you and put you into the "
NIGGA" group.
What needs to be remembered is that the word "
NIGGA" originated from White slave masters who created a term for their slaves. The word comes from a place of "HATE", control and years and years of cruelty. Now a days, I don't think the "
NIGGA" users take this into consideration. However, my defintion of "
NIGGA" is anyone who exercises pure ignorance. I will not sit here and say I never used the word, however no one can judge me by what is done in my "PRIVATE" home. You need to give thought to what you bring out for others to see, hear and speak about.
Society says "don't judge a book by its cover", however we are judged everyday by the way we walk, talk, dress, wear our hair, our jewelry, cars and residence, our significant others, what we do for a living, and who are our friends etc. So before getting overly comfortable in any situation or environment, I urge you to think about the actions you make and the words you speak.........
